Senior Product Management – Description and Responsibilities
The Senior Product Manager/Director will be responsible for the IT Operations product portfolio. These products target IT Operations in market segments ranging from the SMB to the enterprise and service provider markets. To achieve results the position requires ability to work across organizational boundaries, coordinate multiple initiatives in parallel, and communicate effectively with internal and external audiences. Qualified candidates will be highly experienced in product development and product management. The ideal candidate has an ability to create strong interpersonal relationships and has demonstrable management skills. He or she will have strong working knowledge of systems and network management platforms, communications network equipment, data center equipment and infrastructure. Responsibilities include:
-- Sustain and increase the company’s market leadership in IT Operations Management
-- Own full life cycle of the product portfolio from product conceptualization to requirements gathering, specification, implementation, launch and support
-- Provide thought leadership and support to marketing around positioning, messaging and targeting of the various products and solution sets including the open source platform, and the commercial versions.
-- Represent the company as a spokesperson in outbound communication to partners, customers, analysts and industry groups
-- Support OEM and alliance activities, and participate to the creation of an ecosystem of complementary vendors and products that together deliver broader IT Operations management value
-- Drive competitive analysis and provide sales support on a need basis
-- Manage all aspects of new product launches
-- Support and maintain all product/service pricing with responsibility to help achieve gross margin targets and objectives
-- Act as a product Subject Matter Expert in support of the sales organization and within their community
-- Identify competitive threats, gather appropriate intelligence and conduct associated analysis
-- Create and implement barriers to competitive threats
-- Work with MarComm to develop promotional material including brochures, videos, website content and trade show collateral
-- Support business development activities including active participation in key industry membership groups
-- Active participation at trade shows, seminars and conferences, as directed
Experience and Education
-- 10+ years background in the network and system management / IT Operations management software industry
-- 7+ years overall experience in Product Management / PLC in a similar software product environment
-- Prior hands-on experience in managing or marketing commercial open source software products in IT Operations will be a definite plus
-- Knowledge of network and system technologies including network fundamentals, MPLS L2/L3 VPN, virtualization and cloud computing
-- Working knowledge of the IT Operations business, solution framework and overall market dynamics toward virtualization and IT as a service
-- Excellent ability to balance business and technology perspectives, recommend product direction and provide thought leadership in positioning and differentiating company’s products with respect to competition and market needs
-- Leadership and project management skills in the context of -- Exhibits excellent presentation, communication and writing skills
-- Applies advanced concepts clearly and concisely to communicate technology applications, features, benefits and value propositions
-- Understanding of Fortune 1000 company organizational structure and basic practices of selling to those accounts at all levels
-- Start-up experience and/or new technology launch experience a plus
