Job Description
Looking for an experienced, highly intelligent and quick-learning Search Engine Marketing Manager to manage all aspects of paid search and contextual CPC campaigns across a wide variety of niche verticals.
The Search Engine Marketing Manager owns and manages it all -- keyword generation, account structure, bidding rules, ad copy tests, display URL tests, and landing page tests - across many niche vertical lines of business. This position drives continuous and meticulous optimization across placements, geographies, demographics, match types, day parts, etc. In addition, this position works with our product team to develop the supporting systems and processes that support a first-class search function.
The Search Engine Marketing Manager also plays a pivotal role as a thought leader, advisor and collaborator within the company - you'll be sharing your findings and learnings from your tests with the rest of the marketing, creative and publisher team. We'll be counting on you to share advice and thoughts on display and publisher campaigns run by other team members, and conversely we'll expect you to solicit feedback and advice from others to help build the best possible search campaigns.
Job Requirements and Duties
- Rapidly develop and launch paid search campaigns from scratch across the major search engines and CPC contextual networks.
- Work with the creative team to develop successful sites and landing pages
- Own the processes and tools used for bidding and reporting against paid search campaigns
- Continuously improve the campaigns' quality score, revenue and margin by optimizing all of the available levers - account structure, keywords, match type, demo- and geo-targeting, ad copy and display URL testing, landing page performance, etc.
- Collaborate with the rest of the marketing/publisher/analyst team to share learnings from your tests, and vice versa.
- Communicate results and hypotheses that explain the results of search campaigns in a highly professional manner, in a combination of in-person meetings, conference calls, Powerpoint presentations and email.
- Use Microsoft Excel, our search tools, and reporting services to obtain and analyze data from the search campaigns.
- Continually work with the Engineering team to improve the efficiency of our related Search Engine Marketing campaigns.
Qualifications:
- B.S. Degree or B.A. Degree, including a strong track record of achievement in a rigorous academic environment.
- 2+ years experience owning all elements of direct response paid search engine marketing campaigns that were managed to revenue, cost, and margin at the most granular level. The successful candidate will be exceptionally analytical and entrepreneurial.
- Highly proficient in use of MS Excel, pivot tables, and other analytical tools.
- Strong passion for growing a startup into an industry leader, a "do whatever it takes." attitude, fantastic work ethic, general intellectual curiosity and deep sense of pride in a job well done.
- Meticulous attention to detail, strong sense of "owning the metrics."
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, teamwork skills, PowerPoint skills.
- Able to balance multiple, competing priorities.
Description of the Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate LOVES search. He/she logs in and looks at performance at night and on weekends because its fun to see how his/her ideas to improve the campaign have done.
The ideal candidate for this position has RECENTLY done all parts of SEM at the individual contributor level. They have done the analytical slicing and dicing, keyword generation, grouping keywords, match type testing, ad copy writing, ad copy testing, daypart analysis, etc.
We are not looking for an agency account manager who has analysts doing this work for him or her. Rather, we want the analysts who are doing the work.
The ideal candidate: a) has 12+ months of recent, intense SEM experience as an individual contributor; b) is high potential, ambituous
The ideal candidate will do SEM for us and then, over the next 6-12 months, if they perform, have the opportunity to manage other people. We hope to find someone who can be a Director and then VP of the company in 3-5 years as we grow.
